In order to give your web sites maximum processor power, we’ve isolated the bulk of mail processing and given the job to other servers to process. By using our anonymous MX1 and MX2 records, your incoming mail is routed direct to two servers located in two separate data-centers. Here, using Spamassassin, Bayes filtering, public blacklists and a number of finely-tuned internal mail filtering rules, your incoming mail is scanned for spam and other malicious content. If it passes those initial tests, it is then virus scanned, and the resulting cleaned mail is then forwarded to the server you are hosted on. Of course, you can also fine-tune SpamAssassin and filtering rules within your own control panel to add additional protection from spam and malicious emails.
- Anonymous MX servers perform initial mail scanning for spam and virus content
- As mail is being processed at domain level, email addresses are not stored on our remote mail servers, preventing malicious directory harvesting of your email addresses
- Incoming mail is checked against valid SPF records for the sending domain, and rejected if SPF testing fails
- Public blacklists including DSBL, SORBS, SpamCop and Spamhaus are referred to and our own algorithm of spam scoring applied to reject mail from known spam sources and open relays
- Custom rules (updated hourly) scan for known bad sender domains, subject lines, etc
- Real time virus scanning is performed on the remaining mail before being forwarded to your own account
- In the unlikely event that mail services are temporarily down on your account server, mail is horded on our remote mail servers until it can be delivered to you
- Your outgoing emails are sent direct from your hosting server, with the appropriate SPF and Domain Key records in place to validate your email as genuine
- You still access all your email in the normal way, via POP3, SMTP, IMAP or webmail
- Customers are encouraged to forward the mail headers of any spam mail that gets through our filters to our Mail Support Center, so that our filters can be updated as necessary
